On Saturday, July 11th… my husband, Ryan August, and our son Declan were in a car accident on their way home from Atlanta. They were driving through a storm when Ryan’s car left the road and struck a tree. Declan, secured in his car seat, made it through with minor cuts and bruises. Ryan died on impact.

Ryan was a wonderful husband and the most devoted father I have ever seen. I cannot not begin to imagine our lives without him….

I know that he has many friends out there and I wanted to let everyone know what happened. Right now there is so much to deal with that I am struggling to keep it all moving…. but when I can I will set to honoring his commitments involving I Want Your Skull and its related blog. Right now I am focused on our son and trying to understand the unfathomable.

Stix and Jones Pit Bull Skull

Stix and Jones created this customized pit bull skull for the A Mute of Hounds show at Gallery Meltdown.

“Gallery Meltdown is very excited to present “A Mute of Hounds”, a show of dog inspired art work by 50 amazing artists, to benefit the dogs of Downtown Dog Rescue. 20% of all sales of artwork will be donated to Downtown Dog Rescue.

The Downtown Dog Rescue (DDR) is the only program in California, and possibly the United States, specifically founded to assist homeless dog owners spay/neuter, vaccinate, license their dogs, as well as offer a variety of services including crisis care for the life of the dog. Each year Downtown Dog Rescue assists in rescuing over 300 dogs, mostly American Pit bull Terriers and other Power Breeds that often die in the shelters mostly due to unresolved behavioral issues. Each dog we rescue is socialized with other dogs, evaluated for aggression, sterilized, vaccinated and micro-chipped before the dog is adopted out.”

Army of Skull Cups

These cups will demand the attention of your friends (or enemies). They remind us of a Viking party in Valhalla with lots of Meade and tall tales.

These four asymmetrical, organically shaped cups are each hand pinched and unique. They sit on three gangly legs which add personality and mean you can skip the coasters. The unglazed speckled clay and iron oxide wash gives the set a dark red brown color and an earthy feel. They have a wild, bumpy, bubbly surface.

Individual cups hold 12-14 oz
Individual cups Approx 5” tall, 4” diameter

Hand built stoneware
Food safe, dishwasher safe, lead free

UV-glowing skulls stamped onto thousands of pounds’ worth of UK bank-notes

“For the last two years I’ve been stamping UV skulls on the Queen’s face on all the money that I get out of the ATM. There’s now thousands of pounds worth floating around the UK economy, visible only to bees and humans with a blacklight. Given the events in the world’s economy over the last couple of years, it seems all the more (im)pertinent.”
